The international program "Peace Child" was organized in 1982 in England by David Vulkomb. The main purpose of the program is to unite young people from different countries. The target of the program - training children the skills of dialogue, skills of solving disputed situations, informing young people about the various problems existing in different countries, and also teaching to express their own positions, points of view on various problems and ways of its solution under the form of musical performance which must be created by young people together with adults.
For about 15 years of its existence the program has received further development in our country too, acquiring new purposes and tasks in education of the young generation - education the young leader in the society, teaching moral and cultural wealth, which is necessary to the youth today, active participation in the life of our society, participation in the work of the international organization of UNESCO clubs, mastering the knowledge about the United Nations, its structure, financing, history of creation and development, and also the problems of the United Nations at the present stage. One of the basic directions of the work of the program is mastering the English language at a high level, studying the traditions, culture, history of the English-speaking countries, especially those we cooperate and participate with in the joint projects (Great Britain, Ireland, America, Holland, Norway). The great value in the work of the program is borrowed to studying a cultural heritage of our country, folklore, its worthy representation abroad.
The problems existing in our society, its understanding by young people, their attitude to it lay in the basis of creation of each new musical performance. The information on the given problem gathers, is discussed, then there is a work on the SPELLING of the script, selection of songs, and then a creating part. The head of the program, the producer and the director take part in the final creation of the performance. "Peace Child" is the program which prepares a highly educated young people owning skills of the English language, loving their Native land and adequately representing it abroad, people who know its culture and traditions, the laws of conflictology and communication. They are kind, sympathetic and not indifferent to the problems of their society, and also to their relatives. At the same time, it is a remarkable musical performance created by joint efforts of children and adults.
Where does the name "Peace Child" come from?
Many years ago two tribes in New Guinea were at enmity with each other. Constant wars carried away lives of people and children, destroyed their dwellings. No negotiations could stop this enmity. Eventually, absolutely weakened tribes have begun negotiations on the establishment of Peace once again. By this time leaders of these tribes have had their children born, and they have decided to exchange their children. Since then wars have stopped: nobody wanted to kill their own children, and children began to refer as - Children of Peace. Sincerity of children makes adults to reflect on a problem and to be more active in its solution.
The basic task of the program "Peace Child" is friendship and respect to other cultures, countries, nationalities; education of young people in the spirit of Peace and mutual understanding.
